Spider Vein Treatment in Alexandria, VA

Fade visible veins on your face and legs — without injections, without surgery, and without putting your day on hold.

Spider veins are one of the most common cosmetic concerns we see at Sasha Beauty Laser Center, and also one of the most straightforward to treat. The red, purple, and blue thread-like veins that appear on the legs, ankles, and face respond well to laser energy — no needles, no incisions, and no significant downtime required.

At Sasha Beauty Laser Center, our team assesses each case individually: your skin tone, the size and depth of the veins, the treatment area, and what’s realistic for your situation. There’s no standard protocol because spider veins aren’t standard.

We treat them using the Cynosure Lutronic Clarity II, a platform with spider veins and vascular lesions as confirmed clinical indications — chosen because it gets results safely and with virtually no downtime.

What are spider veins — and why do they appear?

Spider veins are small, dilated blood vessels that have become visible near the surface of the skin. They typically appear as thin red, blue, or purple lines — sometimes branching out in a web-like pattern, which is where they get their name. They’re most common on the legs, ankles, and feet, but they also appear on the face — particularly around the nose, cheeks, and chin.

Their exact cause isn’t fully understood, but contributing factors include genetics, prolonged standing, hormonal changes, sun exposure, and age. Weakened vein valves allow blood to pool rather than circulate properly, causing the vessel walls to expand and become visible through the skin.

Spider veins are not dangerous — they’re a cosmetic concern. But for many people, they’re a source of self-consciousness that limits what they feel comfortable wearing or doing.

How the Clarity II treats spider veins

The Clarity II delivers targeted laser energy directly into the affected vein. The energy heats the vessel wall, causing it to collapse — the collapsed vein is then gradually broken down and reabsorbed by the body over the following weeks.

The surrounding skin is unaffected. The laser is calibrated to deliver consistent, even energy across the treatment area, and the integrated cooling system protects the skin surface throughout.

What spider vein treatment can address

  • Spider veins on the legs, ankles, calves, and thighs
  • Broken capillaries and thread veins on the face
  • Cherry angiomas — small bright red spots on the face or body
  • Visible veins around the nose and cheeks
  • Scattered vascular lesions in multiple areas

The Clarity II can treat veins up to 4mm in diameter. Larger or deeper varicose veins are a separate medical concern and are not treated with this technology — your consultation will clarify what’s appropriate for your situation.

What to expect from your treatment

The consultation Our team will assess the veins you want treated, their size and depth, and your skin tone. She’ll map out a treatment plan including the number of sessions likely needed and what to expect at each stage.

The treatment Sessions typically take 15 to 45 minutes depending on the size of the treatment area. The Clarity II is passed over the target veins, delivering short pulses of laser energy. Most clients describe the sensation as a quick snap of warmth — tolerable for most people without numbing. The built-in cooling system manages comfort throughout.

For leg vein treatments, compression stockings are applied after your session to support healthy circulation while the treated vessels close and are reabsorbed.

After your session Some clients see an immediate reduction in the appearance of veins. Full results develop over 4–6 weeks as the body clears the collapsed vessels. Mild redness or a slight warming sensation in the treated area is normal and typically resolves within a few hours. There is no meaningful downtime — most clients return to their normal day immediately.

How many sessions will you need?

Most spider vein concerns resolve in 1–3 sessions. Facial veins and smaller clusters often respond more quickly than leg veins, which can involve more vessels across a larger area. Your specialist will give you a realistic estimate at your consultation based on what she sees.

Because new spider veins can develop over time — particularly on the legs — some clients return periodically for maintenance sessions as new vessels appear.

Is spider vein treatment right for you?

This treatment is well-suited if you:

  • Have visible spider veins on your legs, ankles, or face that bother you
  • Want to treat them without injections or surgery
  • Are looking for a low-downtime option that fits your schedule
  • Have darker skin and have been told laser isn’t appropriate — the Clarity II is safe for all skin tones, including complexions that older laser systems couldn’t treat

One thing to be aware of: spider veins on the legs are often part of an ongoing tendency, not a one-time problem. Laser treatment clears what’s currently visible, but doesn’t prevent new veins from forming. Your specialist will discuss what a realistic long-term approach looks like for your situation.

Before & after care

Every laser journey at Sasha Beauty starts with a free consultation. We’ll assess your skin type and tone, review your treatment history, and walk you through the options that make sense for your goals. There’s no pressure and no obligation — just a clear picture of what’s possible and what to expect.

From there, most treatments follow the same basic pattern: a short session (15–30 minutes for most areas), built-in cooling for comfort, and little to no downtime afterward. The number of sessions varies by treatment and individual factors — your specialist will give you a realistic plan at your consultation

Before your treatment

Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanner for at least two weeks before your appointment. For hair removal specifically, shave the area 24 hours before — do not wax or pluck. Pause retinoids and active exfoliants 48–72 hours prior. Come to your appointment with clean skin, no makeup or lotion on the treatment area.

After your treatment

Apply SPF 30 or higher daily — protecting treated skin from UV exposure is the single most important thing you can do to protect your results. Avoid hot showers, saunas, and intense exercise for 24 hours. You may experience mild redness or slight swelling that typically resolves within a few hours. Do not pick or scratch the treated area. Your specialist will give you any additional aftercare specific to your treatment.

Pair it with other treatments

Rosacea-prone skin often benefits from a broader skincare approach alongside laser. Our medical-grade facials — particularly our calming and sensitive skin options — complement laser rosacea treatment well and help maintain results between sessions. If you also have visible spider veins beyond your face, that’s a separate but related treatment.

Frequently asked questions

Most clients need 1–3 sessions to achieve their desired results. Facial veins and smaller clusters often clear faster than leg veins. The number depends on how many veins you’re treating, their size, and how your body responds. Your specialist will give you a realistic estimate at your consultation.

Most clients describe it as a quick snap of warmth — similar in sensation to a rubber band flick. The Clarity II’s integrated cryogen cooling keeps the skin comfortable throughout. Leg vein treatment can feel slightly more intense than facial treatment because the vessels tend to be larger, but it’s generally well-tolerated without numbing.

Some improvement is visible immediately after treatment. Full results develop over 4–6 weeks as the body reabsorbs the collapsed vessels. Some veins may appear temporarily darker before fading — this is a normal part of the process, not a sign something went wrong.

The veins treated in each session are permanently closed and reabsorbed. However, spider veins — particularly on the legs — can recur over time because the underlying tendency toward weak vein valves doesn’t change. New veins can develop, especially with prolonged standing, sun exposure, or hormonal changes. Periodic maintenance sessions manage this effectively for most clients.

No meaningful downtime. Mild redness or a warming sensation in the treated area is normal and typically resolves within a few hours. For leg vein treatments, we apply compression stockings after your session — we recommend wearing them for the rest of that day. Avoid strenuous exercise and direct sun on the treated area for 24–48 hours.

Depending on the areas and extent of treatment, this may be possible. Your specialist will advise at your consultation based on the total treatment area and what’s appropriate for a single session.
